Under “dog”- I’ll have another

Well, yesterday was the the famous hat toting, derby wearing,money betting Kentucky Derby/2012. It was a great 2 minutes, as it is usually. I sat and watched as Bodemeister basically dominated the race, kind of secretly drawing a conclusion that he was going to be the Winner in this one, as I’m sure I was not the only one with that thought.

In the final stretch, you could see, in the rerun of the race. that this under estimated Equine(I’ll Have Another) was going to present a challenge to the Bodemeister lead. What a great story told afterwards on the history of  this animal.

Bought for only 35,000 or 11,000? dollars, according to articles on Google, he certainly increased his value in that short 2 minutes! His Jockey seemed to also coincide with the story of under estimation. The emotions were high after his win, understandably so. His first time at the Derby and winning from post #19 (never been done) he certainly was worthy of a few tears!

Ironically, an original resident from Mexico won the most prestigious race on Cinco De Mayo! Good for him, and Good for the 3 yr old Colt! In the words of his Jockey- He’s an amazing horse-

Horse Leasing

Equine ownership can be quite the expensive “pet” of choice to say the least. An avenue of possibility in the Horse world is to Lease the animal. With this option, it provides a person with all the novelties of ownership without the entirety of expense.

Unlike car leasing u don’t have a cap on miles! The 4 legged friend is urs for how many days of the month that u r contracted with the actual owner. It certainly allows the opportunity for a person to get the feel of what it is to own such an animal, usually at quite a reduction in price of actual possession.

predominately a female sport/hobby or profession this possible “rent to own” option provides a person with the experience to see if renting will lead to owning- Happy Riding!

The Equines at Christmas

Well another Holiday is over and Santa has come and gone. Of course, not forgetting the Equines in his travels! Lol
Every yr he stops by the stables to drop off goodies such as peppermint candies, figs, carrots, and of course, apples! In the 13+yrs of running this business of boarding and riding, I can’t recall any coal left in their “stockings” and with good reason as they r all very good most of the time.
But Boy, if they could speak, they would certainly express their gratitude/ as they almost do in their snickering,whinnying ways! I have often thought and commented that I wouldn’t mind coming back as one of them, in my next life. Their biggest concern of the day is /when the next feeding will take place?
Yes, Christmas 2011 is a memory and soon the yr will be history as we move into twenty twelve. Humans will be concerned with an election yr, the economy, employment, and ? – but the Horse will be content knowing that the next feeding time is sure to b coming soon and their owner will be more than happy to supply!

The Recent signing of Horse Slaughtering

Anyone partially or fully affiliated with the horse world and even some that aren’t, are aware of the President signing of a bill recreating the unspeakable act of Equine killing for Human consumption. In a display by Obama in campaigning for upcoming election, he must have neglected to recall that 70% (poss more) of the US are against this. Certainly won’t assist his numbers in the horse world!

These animals of God’s creation were never intended to be on a dinner table! Equines have throughout history, provided many provisions to their human companions, from working in the Northern Maine woods logging-competitive riding competitions-transportation-to just being a great Human companion!

Equine’s idiosyncracies

Being around Horses on a daily basis, there are some “happenings” that I probably have witnessed before but struck me more so this past week. Provokes the wonderment of what goes on in the minds of these creatures, at times.

Brushing the lips back and forth the metal bars in front of the stall, their looking right into ur eyes, or the act of  nose to human face touch, seems to elate to the fact of some sort of communication! Whether it is or not, each Equine certainly has their own personality, as we do.

It’s been interpreted by Horse communicators that they certainly have impressions on the goings on, in the stable. All thoughts from fear, to authority, to anticipation of who is traveling over the crushed stone driveway, shine thru their personalities.

Animals in general “talk” , I believe, and I guess it is up to us to come to the conclusion of the interpretation of their movements.

Horses and stuff

Within this time of Yr., avid Riders start to take their riding indoors. Although, most Equine facilities do not have heated areas, the being out of the element is the main benefit. Footings in the arenas can possibly be different from those of an outdoor ring, and may offer horse and rider a different experience because there of. Shredded rubber, sand, play ground mulch are some of the many options.

Staying related to this time of the yr(November) especially in New England, is the Equine Affair in the Big E fair area in Springfield, MA. This Event happens annually and offers all and everything for the Equine, Rider, Trainer, Owner, u name it!

It has certainly been an unusual end of Oct weather pattern in this part of the US, and Mother Nature still shows, she is the boss! We can choose to complain and fight her but really the best thing is to deal with it, as it really is our only choice!

Horse people

In the past week we had the opportunity to assist a friend(s) in unloading hay for a new rescue facility in CT. It was a great day weather wise and terrific to meet other horse people!

With that thought in mind, these humans have something in common in their bonding with one another and their animals. It is a society that a non- horse related individual might view as somewhat of a Cult   LOL

In Life, it is a great experience, and also, to witness tasks of assistance with expecting nothing in return! We need more of this in the world, in my opinion.

Ironically, an animal does this for us, everyday. Dogs, horses, etc., love us everyday unconditionally. I’m reminded of the saying ” be the person that your dog thinks u r” when it comes to this animal/human relationship!

Horses and Children with Special Needs

Equines are faithful companions. They do what u ask them(most of the time) and are great assets to human life.

With regards to that, our Daughter works with Special Needs Children in the local school system and absolutely loves her work.

This type of occupation takes much patience and understanding, which can be derived from our 4 legged friends, also. It is a good match, when a horse and child(special needs or not) bond, even it is for a short time, such as a half hr instructional riding lesson!

Sp Needs children want to be able to enjoy the things that others do. They might not be able to express their feelings verbally, but their actions, facial displays, and over all apparent delight, reveals it all! It is a blessing to be able to put these 2 beings together and experience the outcome(s).

Horse Farms

This past weekend we were lucky enough  to have some time to attend the Big E in Mass. Saying enough time can be appreciated by  anyone that has animals, especially farm animals. They are a 7 days/week, 52 weeks a yr occupation, profession or hobby, however u want to categorize it.  

Having that indicated, it was exemplified by an individual we were chatting with while sitting in the shade for a break from the walking. Her Husband has had Equines, Large Equines that is, for all his life & We were discussing the devotion of time it is required into having such an interest. It is a passion, that is either genetic or something that causes the liking  for whatever reason, in a person’s life.

She opted for a Professional Career/ he the farm life. Must be a good mix as she indicated they had been together for some 40+ yrs! All and all, we agreed that Farms have their pros and cons as most businesses do. The largest con is the time consumption, I think was the general consensus. But, then again, when u do something u love to do, it is never viewed as “work” and that is certainly utopia in life is to LOVE ur work, as u”ll never work another day in ur life!

Various Equine Related Occupations

Having been involved in the Horse Business in the past 12-13 yrs, I have realized that there are many options out there in this particular field of interest. The Equine opportunities +(most familiar to me),  range from Facility owner that provides stalls for board and Lesson teaching which is probably the most time-consuming and expensive from a “start from scratch” perspective.

Others are Farrier,Trainer, Groomer, Massage Provider, Vet,and the list goes on. The obvious to me, in the provision of any of these occupations is that in most times, it is a way of off setting the cost of Horse Ownership. As the saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention so holds true in the Equine world. Lets face it, if a person, does not have the interest in these animals in the first place, they probably would not be involved in such a trade.

I do not know the approx revenue generated in CT that is Equine related, but being as though we are second in the nation of horses per Capita, my assumption is that it would be a fairly large number. Ahh yes, not to forget that we are in the Fair season at present, in New England and for the non-equine related people who may be reading, could be an opportunity to learn about these trades, in some instances….Good Luck to all in this last qtr of 2011!
